Sandi Greene. Visual Artist and Photographer.

I paint for the love of the process.

For the ideas that wake me in the night.

For the blank canvas, waiting to be transformed.

For the joy of colour and texture and how they dance.

For the angst when I think - this isn’t going to work.

For the wonder of the gifts that flow through me.

I paint for that moment when a painting is finished,

And I am filled with gratitude.

When someone else treasures my art, I am truly honoured.

I am in awe of the beauty of our world and for the privilege of sharing my interpretation.

In my years of being an artist I have explored many mediums, many subjects and many styles, each one bringing me it’s own unique challenges and delights.

In 2008 I ventured into encaustic. It is unlike any other medium I have worked with. It is full of mystery, challenges and rewards.  But more than anything it brings me the freedom to let go; to surrender to the process. It is like a partner in dance, sometimes leading sometimes following.

I choose the colours and designs and wield the brush and the heat, and yet the physical chemistry of the mineralogy and that of the pigments play their own magical part in combination with the wax, becoming integral to the outcome. Because of this chemical and physical reaction, many unique jewels of colour and form occur within each individual painting. Often I include “earth” materials such as semiprecious stones, flowers and grasses.

The natural world around me has always played a major part in inspiring my work. In 2005 I authored a magical book called Seeing Evangeline which explores seeing the ordinary in the extraordinary.

I live in Calgary with my husband and two cats.
